If a big part of your holiday revolves around the local beach life, you can breathe a sigh of relief. The name Incekum means 'fine sand', so you immediately know the shores here are something to write home about. In fact, it's one of the best beaches along Turkey's south coast, envied for its long ribbon of golden sands and gin-clear seas. Sitting in a sheltered bay, its shallow waters are especially good for families and kids have plenty of space to run about in. You'll find plenty in the way of sun beds and parasols, too. It's not all about sunbathing and sandcastles here, though. If you like to keep on your feet, dip into some of the activities. On dry land, you've got games like beach volleyball going on. And in the waves, you can take your pick of watersports such as windsurfing and parasailing. Boat trips and treading the coastal paths are also popular pursuits. Away from the town's sandy showpiece, you'll find a few distractions. The main road is striped with a pick and mix of shops, some selling traditional Turkish goodies. And there's the little commercial centre known as Avsallar Village – a hub of bars, restaurants and a handful of souvenir stores. You won't find much else, but that's this place's charm. People come here for its laid-back qualities, to get away from the big buzzing resorts. And the pace is just as slow after dark. The nightlife amounts to an unhurried meal and a couple of quiet drinks, with not a dot of neon to be seen. You could jump in a taxi to neighbouring Alanya for a livelier evening, but once most people are here, they find it pretty hard to leave.
